The sister brand

AR1815 joins Robertson’s initials to the year of his birth, anchoring every object in time, much as the handmade balls of his era bore the mark of the hand that made them.

Allan Robertson (1815–1859) of St Andrews is widely regarded as the first professional golfer. A feather-ball maker by trade and a player of rare authority, he shaped the standards of the game before they were ever written down, and was the first recorded to break 80 on the Old Course.

AR1815 is the house’s line of objects: a homage to the skill and standards of Robertson’s era, carried into clubs, putters, golf balls and knitwear made with specialist makers.

Allan Robertson and AR1815 balance tradition and progress, forging a house that embodies the purity of the game, the tactility of fine materials and the quiet confidence of mastery earned.

Just as Robertson’s name stood for excellence on the links, it now stands as a seal of authenticity, for those who understand that the true essence of golf is in the details.

The Makers

One category, one maker. We name the hands.

Every mark should feel part of the object rather than applied to it.

  1. 01

    The best living hands

Each category has a single maker, chosen because no one does it better. If we cannot make the finest example of something, we do not make it.

  2. 02

    Made, not printed

Honest, natural materials that age well. The mark is debossed, engraved, woven or stitched wherever possible.

  3. 03

    Named on every piece

Each object names the workshop and, where they agree, the person who made it. Makers are introduced here as each commission is confirmed.

Partners

Collaboration and licensing

Collaboration extends the house’s values: shared expertise, craftsmanship and authenticity, while leaving room for the maker’s own identity.

AR1815 works with a very small number of makers under licence. In co-branded work the AR1815 mark leads and the maker’s mark follows, separated by a hairline rule. Agreements are made directly with Allan Robertson Ltd, and every product is approved before it is made.

The Register

Every object has a number, and every number has an owner.

Each AR1815 object is numbered. The number, the maker and the owner are entered in the Provenance Register kept by Allan Robertson Ltd in Scotland.

The owner receives a certificate on white cotton paper that matches the Register entry. The Register is private. No owner is ever named publicly.
